Daily Ornithology Lesson

Click for good enlargement.

This sleek, little man is called a Phainopepla. (Fey-na-pep-o-la)

The females still have the crown but are grey. Both have the red eyes.
You can see them in SoCal but they like to winter in the desert.
I just saw some in Jan. ( Yes, I was excited. Stop laughing).

Crap, before I can even READ the post I have to look up Ornithology. Freakin' smart people and your big words. Remind me to kick you later :)

Just for that, I'm going to have my OWN orni..whatever lesson daily. "See this, this is a damn sparrow aka smalicitis birdicus brownliest"... "And this, this is a crow aka blackus smartiest cawicus". HA! I might even venture into posting a PIDGEON! YES!! Pidgeonitis Birdicus.

bird what a gorgeous creature. His body shape and his crown reminds me of the Blue Jays back East and the Stellar Jays we have here in the Pacific Northwest!
I told you I am a bird fancier too!
I should post a pic of my two little feathered babies someday on my blog, I have two cockatiels.
They are having eating their breakfast as we speak, toast! :)

BTW, NaughtyV, girl, you crack me up....you are such a comedian!

It just means the study of birds! :)

Haa haa "smailicitis birdicus brownliest"

You know, whenever we see a small bird we can't identify we call it LBB (for littlt brown bird)
It's a scientific name!

Joy-
I only have a kitty right now.

I had a Red-Headed Amazon Parrot named BooBoo but she died :(

She was such a part of the family. She got let out of her cage but she didn't really feel like flying around much. She was so bossy.
I'll post a pic soon.

Mostly now I just go birdwatching (nerd!)
But I wouldn't mind a new bird-pet soon.

Hey bird, I had a thought......you should 'right' click on this pic of your cool bird and copy and paste the properties into your pic for this blog/comments section as your pic of the bird (kinda like your avatar)....that would be cool!
