I've never seen one live in the field, maybe someday.

What an odd bird? I would have never know it existed if it wasn't for you!
I sleep litterally face to face with a birds nest, really. My bed is right against a window with an A.C. in it. There is a small space underneath it where Birds have created a nest. The eggs just hatched this morning.They even sound like baby's they give out this long soft coo. It reminds me of you. Thanks for the post.

There are always these red headed finches outside my window - the cutest little things.
Pretty pretty :) Last year I had a woodpecker nest outside my front door in a tree and a Robin's nest in the bush on the other side of my walkway. Everyone wanted to kill my woodpeckers!??!!? "They'll damage your house!!"... they haven't come near it. Wankers.
I love your postings about my favorite creatures birdy bird!.....Wow, this painted bunting looks like he is wearing a rainbow!.....I too have many bird nesting stories, my favorite being red finches who made a nest in my large hanging red geranium outside my front door several years ago....It was hung high, and I had to climb a ladder to water it with a watering can so I would not get the nest and babies all wet!! (Normally I just watered it with my watering wand attachment to the garden hose!)....Oh those sweet precious little babies were so worth it though!....
